Course Description:
The ability for anyone to download a social media app, and have instant access to narcotics, has turned a younger generation into prolific drug dealers. Dealers using Snapchat, Telegram, and TikTok have made connections across the country and created business models ranging from local deliveries to shipping narcotics coast to coast. The advent of making payments electronically, through Venmo and Cash App, has also streamlined the process. Human traffickers have turned to these apps to reach a broader clientele across the country, while thinking they have anonymity.
This course will teach investigators how to complete investigations involving Snapchat, Telegram, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Venmo and Cash App. This course will also show investigators the basics of how to use the platforms, the information needed for preservation requests and search warrants, how to freeze money and recover the money as forfeiture, how to submit court orders through the different law enforcement portals, and how to decipher the data received pursuant to warrants and locate evidence. This course will provide investigators with the techniques to capture information in the apps, the language and lingo used, and case studies to accompany each of the social media and financial applications.
